Historically, when people reflect on Palm Springs, they recall those big spinning wind mills as they enter the desert for a weekend family get away or visiting the generation before their parent’s, at their home during the holiday season. Now Palm Springs has become a very popular destination for a younger generation to gather with friends and celebrate one another!
My teamed joined our couple, Kirk and Ryan, on a beautiful December weekend, as they celebrated the union of their love with close family and friends. Tucked along the gorgeous, rocky hillside of warm earth tones and bright blue desert skies, Kirk and Ryan said their “I dos” at Avalon Hotel and Bungalows.
Their vision emulated the elegance of classic romance, a canvas of black tie and white tablecloth, with rich emerald green accents. They brought in some of these jewel tones through décor but also capitalized on the natural ambiance of the venue. All kinds of trees and greenery framed each space, in which different moments of their wedding were hosted.
Kirk and Ryan took a non-traditional approach on the morning of their wedding, when they met us in the Regency Courtyard for rehearsal and then moved along to their bungalow together, to get ready for their big day! Guests gathered promptly at 4PM in the courtyard for the ceremony, where Kirk and Ryan walked down the aisle together! I absolutely LOVE the unconventional spins that couples have taken the liberty to create on their own!
Guests then moved from the Regency to the Presidio Pool for cocktail hour and then right across the walkway into dinner on the Presidio Lawn. Three lengthy king’s tables, draped in lush emerald garland and flickering candle light, filled the space. The couple joined their guests with a grandiose entrance, streamers rocketing out of cannons and all! Shortly after dinner service had concluded, four ballroom doors glided open, as Ryan thanked and welcomed their guests inside for more fun and dancing!! The evening was made complete with cupcakes from Sprinkles and late night “snacks” (cheeseburgers and French fries) from In-N-Out! Everyone left that evening feeling happy, their dancing shoes well worn and a satisfied appetite!
What I loved so much about this wedding, was the fact that Kirk and Ryan really stayed true to themselves and that was reflected in their entire wedding. The décor and overall ambiance was simply elegant. The flow of the evening was organic and each space was very intimate, allowing guests to be more social. I received SO MANY compliments about the appeal of the intimacy and the fact that guests were really able to enjoy each other’s company!!
This wedding will definitely go down in our books, but more importantly for the couple and their guests! Cheers to many more years of love and memories for Kirk and Ryan!!
